Internal Opportunity: Fire Battalion Chief
The City of McMinnville’s Fire Department is recruiting a Battalion Chief to lead one of the department’s three shifts. Battalion Chiefs are responsible for the direct supervision of career fire and EMS personnel and volunteer members (up to 50 volunteers at incidents and training.) In addition to personnel management and supervision, Battalion Chiefs have managing authority over a major component of the department’s administrative operations: facility maintenance, fleet maintenance, EMS supplies, and department health and safety programs.
The minimum qualifications to be a Battalion Chief are:
High school diploma or GED + two years of college in Fire/Emergency Medical or Fire and Life Safety, or a closely related field and seven years of experience in the fire service. Any combination of education and experience that demonstrates the knowledge, ability, and skills to perform the duties of Battalion Chief will be considered in this recruitment.
Additionally, Battalion Chiefs are required to hold certifications and licenses:
- NFPA Driver & Pumper Operator
- NFPA Fire Officer 1
- NFPA Fire Instructor 1
- Certified Oregon EMT
- Valid Oregon driver’s license and good driving record
The desired qualifications for Battalion Chiefs include:
- Associates degrees in Fire Science or EMS
- NFPA Fire Officer 2
Annual Compensation: $78,120-$99,672 +all incentives and benefits outlined in the collective bargaining agreement and/or employee handbook
