Voyager 1’s Perspective Changing Photos: “The Family Portrait”

There are currently FIVE spacecraft either on their way out of our Solar System, or have already left the influence of our Sun. Voyager 1 was the very first to do so. On its way out, Voyager 1 took a series of photos of 6 of the planets, pictures that have impacted our awareness of our place in space. Come learn about these wonderful pictures and get an update on Voyager 1 itself, sending data back to Earth for over 46 years!

PLANETARY DEFENSE WITH NASA'S DART MISSION

Millions of nearby asteroids could potentially impact Earth! Is it possible to protect our Earth from asteroids large enough to cause damage? NASA’s DART Mission set out to test one possible approach. Near Earth is a binary asteroid system with the larger one, Didymous, orbited by its smaller moonlet, Dimorphos. This first ever Planetary Defense mission set out to investigate and demonstrate deflection changing an asteroid’s motion in space as a result of crashing an impactor into it. Come learn about the design of this unique spacecraft and the spectacular results of the impactor on the orbit of Dimorphos!

METEORITES: AMBASSADORES TO EARTH FROM OUR SOLAR SYSTEM

Did you know that every 24 hours, 7 days a week, 365 days a year an average of between 50 to 100 tons of material from our Solar System lands on the Earth? Much of it falls as tiny specks of dust. But every so often, something more spectacular arrives, like it did in Russia a few years back. Come learn more about METEORITES, the bigger pieces of all that stuff from our solar system falling onto the surface of the Earth!
